The Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC) today issued a notice to the state government and the police for allegedly not providing food and other facilities to police personnel during the Legislative Assembly sessions.

The notice was issued following a fresh complaint filed by social activist Aires Rodrigues before GHRC, in which he alleged that despite the state administration's assurance last year, the policemen are still being deprived of dinner and other facilities during the ongoing session of the Goa Assembly.

The GHRC issued the notice to Chief Secretary R K Srivastava and Director General of Police Muktesh Chandra.

"The police staff on duty at Goa Legislative Assembly were not provided with evening tea and dinner during the session, which goes on for the entire day," Rodrigues said in the complaint.

The chief secretary and the director general of police have been directed to appear before the commission at 11 am tomorrow.

Rodrigues pointed out that the policemen are still being neglected even as theChief Secretary R K Srivastava had on April 12 given a written undertaking to the GHRC assuring to provide food and other facilities to police when the House is in session.

Rodrigues had filed a complaint in November last year on the same issue, following which the GHRC in its report on November 26 last year asked the Goa government to provide food and sanitation facilities to the police personnel posted on duty during the sessions of the Goa Legislative Assembly.
