A 14 year-old-girl, who set herself ablaze on May 31 at a village in Virudhunagar district after she was repeatedly sexually harassed by her teacher for over a year, died at a government hospital here today.
Police said the temporary teacher had continuously sexually harassed the 8th standard student for over a year, despite being warned against it by her parents. The school had also banned him from taking classes.
On May 31, he reportedly accosted her in the middle of a busy street at Thambipatti village and said if he did not marry her, he would spread rumours they were in a sexual relationship.

After the incident she set herself ablaze at her house the same day.She was admitted to a government hospital at Vathrairuppu and later referred to the Rajaji government hospital here, where she passed away this morning, police said.
The man, who was arrested on June 1 and booked under various sections of IPC, has been lodged in prison in Srivilliputtur.
He would also be booked under IPC Section 306 (inducing to commit suicide), police said.
