Gold bars worth Rs 55 lakh seized from AI passenger

Gold bars, weighing two kg and worth Rs 55 lakh, were today seized from an Air India passenger at nearby Karipur international airport, air customs intelligence officials said.

Acting on a tip-off, officials checked AI 998 aircraft which arrived at 5.30 am from Sharjah and seized a packet containing the gold bars hidden under a seat.

Ashik (26) of Balussery, near here, has been taken into custody in connection with the seizure, they said.
