Amid reports of violence in parts of Tamil Nadu against the backdrop of a Bangalore special court convicting Chief Minister Jayalalithaa in a wealth case, Governor K Rosaiah today summoned top bureaucrats to review the law and order situation.

Top officials had detailed discussions with the Governor at the Raj Bhavan here, even as speculation surfaced over the next Chief Minister, as Jayalalithaa was sentenced to four years imprisonment, sources said.

While incidents of stone pelting on vehicles, damaging two-wheelers parked in public places and forcing downing of shutters were reported in various parts of the state, political reactions to the conviction might add fuel to the fire, police expect.

Security has been strengthened at DMK offices and residences of its senior leaders and the residence of BJP leader Subramanian Swamy, the main petitioner in the case, police said.
