The Centre today approved assistance to Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Madhya Pradesh for crops losses due to hailstorm and other natural disasters early this year.

A meeting of the high level committee, chaired by Home Minister Rajnath Singh, approved the central assistance to these states.

It approved assistance for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana for the losses due to hailstorm in February-March, drought in 2013 and Phailin, Helen and Lehar cyclones during 2013, an official release said.

The committee reconsidered the case of loss to Madhya Pradesh due to hailstorm in February-March and upheld its earlier decision. It was also decided that for medium and long term restoration, a separate proposal would be sent by the state government for 'Plan' assistance.

The proposal of Kerala government for assistance for the losses due to floods during 2014 was also approved subject to reconciliation.

The proposal of assistance to Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh for hailstorm was also considered and assistance to Maharashtra was rationalised.

Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh, Minister of State for Finance Nirmala Sitharaman and senior officers of the ministries of Agriculture, Finance and Home also attended the meeting.
