Govt official gets 1-year in jail for graft

A government official was today convicted and awarded one-year imprisonment by an anti-corruption court here, a spokesman of Jammu and Kashmir State Vigilance Organisation said.

Special Judge, Anti-Corruption Court, Y P Bourney convicted former Assistant Compiler, District Fund Office, Srinagar, Ghulam Mohammad Dar, who was arrested while accepting a bribe of Rs 2,000 in 2004, the spokesman said.

The court also imposed on Dar a fine of Rs 10,000.

A case was registered against Dar, a resident of Rabitar in Ganderbal district, on July 26, 2004 at police station vigilance on a written complaint lodged by a teacher Abdul Majid Misger alleging that the official was demanding bribe from him for processing his GP fund bill.
 

After obtaining sanction from the government, the charge sheet was filed before the court of Special Judge, Anti-Corruption Kashmir.

He said the accused has been lodged in Central Jail Srinagar.
