Press Trust of India Bangalore
Karnataka Government today announced it would pay fees of eligible OBC students directly to the management of professional colleges under a scheme.

The government has earmarked Rs 244 crore for the scheme and as many as three lakh students, whose annual family income is not more than Rs 2.5 lakh, will be benefited from it, Social Welfare Minister H Anjaneya told reporters here.

The fees, including tuition, admission and sports fee, will be paid by the government to the colleges instead of OBC students paying it up, which was in vogue previously, he said.

"Under the scheme, students don't have to arrange for the fees. The government will pay for them," he added.

The scheme is applicable to those students whose annual family income is not more than Rs 2.5 lakh, Anjaneya said.
