: Representatives of Dalit community expressed their grievances at the SC/ST grievance redress meeting held at the Deputy Commissioners (DC) office here today.
Issues like police 'atrocities' and misuse of naxal package were brought to notice of the DC by the convenor of the Dalita Hakkugala Horata Samithi, L Shekhar.
Despite an order from the Court that the word 'Harijan' should not be used, the terms Girijana and Harijana were being extensively used in official records, and the representatives requested action from the district administration to rectify this.
They urged the Deputy Commissioner to respond to their problems pertaining to drinking water scarcity in Dalit colonies, road connectivity, drainage and various other issues.
Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim assured them that he would look into the matter and take appropriate steps to resolve the issues.
