Gunmen on a motorcycle killed one Egyptian military policeman and wounded three as they were escorting an army bus in the capital today, a security official said.
Attacks on security forces have surged since the army ousted Islamist president Mohamed Morsi last July triggering a deadly crackdown on his supporters.
The gunmen struck in broad daylight in the Amireya neighbourhood of east Cairo, the security official said.
As with previous attacks, the army blamed the shooting on Morsi's Muslim Brotherhood, which the authorities have blacklisted as a "terrorist group" even though it has repeatedly condemned attacks on security personnel.
