Gur (jaggery) prices shot up by Rs 200 per quintal at the wholesale market in the national capital today following increased buying by stockists and retailers against paucity of stocks ahead of festive season.
Muzaffarnagar and Muradnagar gur markets also displayed a similar trend on brisk demand.
Marketmen said spurt in demand ahead of festive season like "Raksha Bandhan", against negligible arrivals owing to fall in production because of bad weather conditions, mainly attributed the sharp rise in prices.

In Delhi, gur Pedi prices flared up by Rs 200 to end at Rs 3,000-3,100 per quintal.
Also, prices of gur Dhayya, Chakku and Shakkar surged by Rs 100 each to conclude at Rs 3,100-3,200, Rs 2,800-2,900 and Rs 3,100-3,200 per quintal.
At Muzaffarnagar, gur Chakku shot up to finished at Rs 2,500-2,650 from Rs 2,300-2,600, showing a rise upto Rs 200 per quintal.
Similarly, prices of gur Raskat hardened by Rs 200 to Rs 2,700-2,750 per quintal on strong beer makers demand.
Coming to Muradnagar, there too prices of gur Pedi traded higher by Rs 150 to end at Rs 2,650-2,700 per quintal.

Gur chakku Rs 2,800-2,900, pedi Rs 3,000-3,100, dhayya Rs 3,100-3,200 and shakkar Rs 3,100-3,200.
Muzaffarnagar: Rasket Rs 2,700-2,750, chakku Rs 2,500-2,650, khurpa Rs N.T. And Ladoo Rs NT.
Muradnagar: Pedi Rs 2,650-2,700 and dhayya Rs NT.
