A group of amateur ham radio operators have approached police here claiming they have come across 'indecipherable signals' originating off India's west coast.
"The ham operators have written to us, alerting us of the signals," a police officer told PTI here today.
He said the police are looking into the matter and will also approach relevant technical authority.
The blips picked up by the radio operators' wireless sets were traced to about 100 nautical miles, or 185 kilometres, off the Maharashtra-Gujarat coastline.
Ham operators have claimed that many of the around 200 hams in Mumbai have heard these signals, the officer said.
An amateur radio operator is someone who uses equipment at an amateur radio station to engage in two-way personal communications with other amateur operators on radio frequencies assigned to the amateur radio service.
