With an eye on Haryana Assembly elections later this year, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today implemented several schemes for welfare of farmers in the state.
Hooda had announced these schemes, including 'Mukhyamantri Kisan and Khetihar Majdoor Jiwan Surksha Yojna' and one-time settlement of crop loans, at a Congress rally at Gohana last year.
However, implementation of these schemes commenced from a state-level 'Kisan Sammelan' here.
Under Mukhyamantri Kisan and Khetihar Majdoor Jiwan Surksha Yojna a compensation of Rs 5 lakh is given in event of death, while under Mukhyamantri Gramin Dudharu Pashudhan Surksha Yojna a compensation ranging from Rs 20,000 to Rs 50,000 in the event of death of cow and buffalo.
Under the scheme of one-time settlement of crop loans, a concession of 50 per cent is given in interest.
Farmers will get compensation in the event of natural disasters like flood and drought up to Rs 10,000 an acre, while the honorarium of chowkidars has been increased up to Rs 3,500.
Hooda also released booklets giving information about these schemes and called upon farmers to adopt modern techniques for increasing agriculture production.
He said during regime of Om Parkash Chautala, the minimum support price for wheat was Rs 630 per quintal. It has now been raised to Rs 1,400.
The Chautala government spent Rs 621 crore against Rs 3,135.36 crore by the present government for development of Jhajjar district, he said.
