: The Madras High Court today dispensed with the appearance of authorities after top officials filed a joint progress report stating that eateries having valid licence had been directed to identify proper parking places for vehicles of customers failing which appropriate and suitable action would be initiated.
The Joint Progress Report was filed by the Joint Commissioner of Police, Traffic(North), Greater Chennai Police, and the Deputy Commissioner, Corporation of Chennai before the First Bench, comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice T.S. Sivgnanam.
The report was filed in response to a PIL filed by one Raghu of Vyasarpadi who sought a direction from the Court to cancel license to all Hotels which do not follow the rules and regulations.
The court had earlier directed authorities to file their joint progress report on plans and other action on regulation of traffic congestion.
Today when the matter came up, a joint progress report was filed by the two officials explaining the plans that are to be implemented in removing encroachments on NSC Bose Road and with regard to the identification of parking place for four wheelers and two wheelers.
It was also submitted that encroachments on road side area at NSC Bose Road are to be removed and unauthorized structures are also to be removed for making provision of parking. In addition to the progress report, plans for regulation of parking were also submitted.
The bench dispensed with the appearance of authorities with a condition that the officers should file further joint progress reports and posted the matter to October 29.
The court on January 30 had directed the officials to work jointly on availability of area for parking facilities before issuing licenses to restaurants and eateries and commercial establishments and to file a comprehensive report.
