The Madras High Court today granted bail to ten persons, including advocates and students, who had staged a protest in the Court Hall of the Chief Justice last month demanding that Tamil be made the official language of the High Court.
Granting bail to the ten who were arrested on September 14, Justice S Vaidyanathan, said they can be released on bail after submitting own bail bond to the satisfaction of the Superintendent of Central Prison, Puzhal.
High drama had been witnessed in the court hall on September 14 as the group, under the banner of Tamils Struggle Movement of Madurai, staged a day-long sit-in before the Chief Justice's Bench, pressing their demand.
In suo motu proceedings, the court had asked authorities to take immediate steps to hand over its security cover to CISF or any similar force.
