Several residential areas were inundated and normal life thrown out of gear as heavy rain lashed Hyderabad since midnight last night.

The residential localities at Nacharam and Kukatpally, among others in the city, faced inundation while rain water entered some apartment complexes.

Hyderabad district received 9 cms of rainfall, the IMD said in its Daily Weather Report of Telangana State as per the data available this morning.

The localities where the drainage system was not in proper shape were at the receiving end.

Residents complained that they could not sleep since late last night as water entered their homes.

Water in the drainages overflowed onto the roads and homes, some of them alleged. Thick foam appeared on some water bodies.

The personnel of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) carried out works to drain out the water and to repair the damaged roads.

Serilingampally MLA Arikepudi Gandhi, who visited affected localities, said a permanent solution needs to be found as some of the houses were built in violation of rules.

Thunderstorm, associated with heavy rain, is "very likely to occur" at isolated places in all the districts of Telangana, the IMD said in its Weather Warning for today.

Thunderstorm is very likely to occur at isolated places in all the districts of Telangana tomorrow, it said.
