Highway robbers active in western UP, NCR arrested in Mathura

The Mathura Police today claimed to have arrested two members of an inter-district gang of robbers who recently waylaid a passenger bus on the Yamuna Expressway and looted people.

Shiv Kumar Jatav and Pankaj were arrested last evening after their car was intercepted at Harnaul curve, under Surir police station limits, here, a police official said.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Swapnil Mamgai said the Jatav, a resident of Aligarh, and Pankaj, hailing from Gautam Buddha Nagar, were arrested after the police received a tip-off about their movement.

Their two other associates, identified as Mayank and Mukesh of Raya in Mathura, however, managed to give police the slip, the SSP added.
 

The gang had on September 27 waylaid a bus on the Yamuna Expressway and looted over Rs 21,000 from the passengers, he said.

The police said they have recovered two country-made pistol and a few live cartridges besides Rs 4,300 from the arrested duo.

During questioning the two said that the car they were caught in was looted by them on October 2 from Greater Noida. They had hitched a ride in the vehicle and fled with it after overpowering the owner near Raya cut in Mathura, according to the police.

Two bogus number plates were also recovered from the car, the police said.
