Security and police personnel were today sent into a tizzy after anonymous bomb threats to the Shastri Bhavan here, housing Central government offices, and the nuclear complex at neighbouring Kalpakkam.

However, both the claims were later proved to be hoax, police said.

Police personnel carried out extensive checks in Shastri Bhavan and screened all vehicles after a telephone call said a bomb would go off in the office complex.

"Soon after the information of a possible bomb spread, police officials beefed up security in Shastri Bhawan and checked all those visiting the campus for their ID cards. Later it was found to be a hoax," a central government official working in the campus told PTI.

Meanwhile, a letter claiming a bomb threat was received at Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR) campus at Kalpakkam, about 80 km from here, last evening following which a complaint was made at the local police station.

Police conducted a thorough check but found nothing amiss.

"There was not much of a situation as yesterday was a holiday for us due to Guru Nanak's birthday. So, officials involved in administrative and research work were not working," an employee of IGCAR told PTI.

However, police continued to check those going in and out of the campus today, sources said.

In another case, a private school received a letter which threatened that a bomb would go off between November 12-14 since

the school's administration had not taken efforts to get government's allowance to a specific "deserving" student.

Police said they were enquiring into the case to find out the origin of the letter and whether there was a student with the mentioned name.
