The festival of colour, Holi, was celebrated with fervour and gaiety across Bihar with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and RJD chief Lalu Prasad greeting people on the occasion.
"I extend my greetings to the people of the state and the country on Holi and their lives' be filled with colour... People should celebrate Holi with harmony," Kumar told reporters at his official residence 7, Circular road.
"We should try to make Bihar such a society where everyday is celebrated like Holi," he said on the sidelines of holi celebrations at his residence which was attended by the JD(U) leaders and workers.
"You have become the Chief Minister who has proved his mettle and now we want to see you as Prime Minister," said one of the persons while extending his greetings to the CM.
This was the first Holi after the assembly elections of last year which was celebrated with joy and pomp at the residences of the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and the RJD supremo Lalu Prasad.
People in large numbers thronged Chief Minister's residence to greet him. Kumar also welcomed the revellers with open arms by offering flower petal to each visitor who later feasted on food and delicacies in the background of music blaring with holi songs.
The RJD chief along with his two minister sons Tejashwi Yadav and Tej Pratap Yadav, drove to Kumar's residence, which is barely few hundred meters away from the former's residence, to greet him.
Kumar had visited Prasad's residence yesterday on the
eve of Holi.
"It was the first occasion after government formation in the state that I have come to greet the CM on Holi. He also blessed me," Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi told reporters.
Lalu Prasad said that he had gone to extend his greetings to Kumar on the occasion. "I extend my greetings to the countrymen on Holi especially soldiers who are on borders to safeguard the country."
RJD chief, who refused to take any questions regarding politics, reiterated that they are united for Bihar's sake and will remain united in future too.
People were seen playing with colours, smearing gulal at each other across Patna peacefully. Revellers gathered around shops at Dak bungalow roundabout in the heart of the state capital for customary 'thandai' and 'paan'.
The holi festival was celebrated in other parts of Bihar with traditional enthusiasm, reports said.
Elaborate security arrangements have been made throughout Bihar as a precautionary measure, police sources said, adding that there was no no report of any untoward incident anywhere from the state so far.
