Houses burnt in fresh bout of violence

Tension gripped Nanjanadu and surrounding villages, the scene of a group clash in which two persons were killed, as 13 more houses were damaged or burnt in a fresh bout of violence today, police said.

Despite the presence of nearly 400 police personnel, including top officials, some miscreants torched three house and vandalised nearly 10 houses, they said.

The incident occured even as the District Collector, R. Shankar was consoling the bereaved families and victims and urging them not to indulge in violence.

He said the administration and police had taken necessary steps to restore confidence among the people.

Two Badaga tribes were killed and six others injured yesterday when two groups in the village clashed over right to perform pooja in a local temple.
