The Himachal Pradesh Assembly today adopted a resolution urging the Centre to take effective measures to check rising food prices and reduce the rates of petrol, diesel and LPG in proportion to the decline in oil prices in the international market.

The resolution moved by Congress' Asha Kumari was passed unanimously as opposition BJP had staged a walkout and was not present in the House.

Moving the resolution, Kumari said that prices of essential commodities have risen sharply after the NDA government came to power at the Centre.

She said it was strange that the opposition was not present in the House when an issue which concerned every household was being discussed.
