Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today accorded the status of nagar panchayat to Shahpur panchayat of Kangra district.

Addressing a rally at Shahpur near here, Singh said the demand for creating SDM office at Shahpur would be considered sympathetically. He also announced upgradation of a community health center to a civil hospital there.

Talking about small scale, micro and medium industries, he said "I wish that Himachal Pradesh should have numerous such small scale, micro and medium industries as it will help in raising economy of the state besides providing employment to our youth".

"Under the ambitious skill development allowance scheme, we have an opportunity in front of us to learn procedural technical expertise in various trades so as to be self sufficient," he said.

Referring to the increasing unemployment in the country, the Chief Minister said the need of the hour was to be technically sound and qualified.

The youths should not run after the government jobs instead they should take technical training or join courses as nursing or in other field so as to tap the opportunities of being self-employed, he said.

Singh said that some people try to divide the nation on the pretext of region and religion and if they somehow succeed in their ulterior motives, the nation will die its death.

Thereby, the moral duty of everyone is to strengthen the nation by forgetting the divides of caste, region and religion, he said.

Similarly, if anyone tries to divide Himachal Pradesh on the basis of language, caste, region and religion, we will fight against them standing united, he added.

Taking a jibe at the opposition, he said the state BJP is still at the place from where it began from.

He advised the state BJP leaders to stop doing politics of regionalism and stop creating rift between people, as Himachal is and will remain united ever.

Later, he laid foundation stones of bridge between lower and upper Chaitru to be constructed at a cost of Rs 1.28 crore and building for rural self employment training institute which would be constructed by spending Rs three crore.
