Idol smuggler jumps into drain, dies; 4 others held

A member of an idol smuggling gang lost his life after he jumped into a drain when a joint team of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and local police chased the gang here, police said today.

The team arrested four other members of the gang from Motipur area on the Indo-Nepal border during a raid yesterday and recovered two costly Shiva idols, DIG SSB Upendra Prasad Balodi said.

The SSB guards 560 km Indo-Nepal border in Uttar Pradesh.

The body of the deceased was fished out later, police added.
