Tension prevailed for sometime today at Thadagam on the city outskirts, over an illegally erected wall for a temple there.

The management of the Mahalakshmi temple, about 25 km from here, had erected a wall, reportedly on encroached land, blocking the way of some residents in the area, police said.

As the people from the area gathered and objected to the wall coming up on Government land, the temple management refused to budge, triggering tension in the area.

Some police personnel from Thudiyalur Station rushed to the spot and also requisitioned the presence of revenue officials and village administrative officer.

On verification of the documents, it was found that land originally belonged to the government, based on which temple officials relented and brought down the wall, easing the tension, police said.
