Noting that every country and community was addressing the risk factors of diabetes, a number of activities that could be considered at national as well as regional level was to increase awareness about the disease and tackle it, Tamil Nadu Governor K Rosaiah said today.
"Adoption of extensive and effective measures for surveillance, prevention and control of diabetes is imperative. Developing strategies and use of modern technologies for early diagnosis and building awareness on prevention of diabetes is necessary," he said at the launch of Best Diabetes programme by Parsi Club, here.
Stating that cost effective strategies were required to prevent diabetes and make primary health care services reach everyone, Rosaiah said, "screening for all complications of diabetes and providing best possible care to all people especially those living in rural areas is necessary."

The governor further said the theme for this year's World Health Day, being observed on April 7, was "Beat Diabetes".
Healthy diet, regular physical activity, maintaining normal body weight, avoiding alcohol, pan and tobacco will help prevent the occurrence of diabetes, he observed.
