There has been an increase in caesarian deliveries in the country to 12.85 per cent of total deliveries.

Stating this in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said the C-Section deliveries of 12.85 per cent in 2012-13 was within the latest acceptable norms of WHO.

He said the central health management information system of the Union Health Ministry provides data on C-Section deliveries.

"The data indicates that the percentage of C-Section deliveries out of total number of deliveries conducted in hospitals in the country has increased from 10.1 per cent in 2010-11 to 12.07 per cent in 2011-12 and to 12.85 per cent in 2012-13," Azad said.

He added a number of steps have been taken by the government under the NRHM to maintain C-Section rates within acceptable norms.
