India has extended a financial assistance of Rs 44.3 million to Nepal to help it build a reintegration center aimed to play a pivotal part in the upliftment of women, including vulnerable widows.
Indian Ambassador to Nepal Ranjit Rae laid the foundation stone of Chhahari - Single Women Reintegration Center Building at Budhanilkantha Municipality in eastern Kathmandu on Monday.
The project is being implemented by Kathmandu District Development Committee in coordination with the Women for Human Rights Single Women Group (WHR).

"India hopes that the project would surely fulfill the objectives and play pivotal roles in the upliftment of women in Nepal at large," said an indian embassy statement.
Chhahari is one of the core pillars of WHR and focuses on rehabilitation and reintegration of vulnerable widows through economic empowerment.
Established in 1994, WHR has a history of working on women's peace-building issues and is ideally positioned at the district levels to work with conflict-affected women and girls, the statement said.
The project will enable the WHR to help raise the status of widows from deprived and depended members to empowered economically independent women.
