Indianchai culture getting popular in Australia

From well known spa centres to cafeterias across Australia, the unique Indianchai culture is gradually picking upthroughan innovativebusiness venture launched here by a young India-bornlawyercumentrepreneur.

Uppma Virdi who runsher business under the name 'Chai Walli',name used for afemale chai vendor in India, saidher authentic teaproducts from Indiawere gaining popularity in Australia with her client lists of over80 outlets so farwhich is increasing everyday.

Virdi was recently invited to host aworkshop at theinaugural Tea festival of Melbourne last week where she explained the participantshowteain Indiahas its own process of being made and that there was anart involved in itsmaking.

"My aim is to make Australians aware howIndian Chai culture is different to rest of the worldand there are differentways we brew chai back home with so manyflavours like cardamom, cloves and ayurvedic ingredients," Virdi said addingthat Indians drinkmore chai than water.
 

Virdi, born in Chandigarh said hertea selling skills come fromher grandfather who was a natural medicine doctor with a background in Ayurveda.

"I learned from him how to balance spices, how to have spices seasonally like I sell chai for summer which has different spices as compared to chai for winters," she said.

Her business invloves wholesale ofIndian tea mixed with different spicesacross Australia to range of outlets including cafes, supermarkets, ice cream parlours, beauty companies anddoughnut outlets.

Shealso has an online service where one can alsoorder Indian chaikettles,small chai glasses and strainers.
