Indore civic body officials beat up woman vendor; 2 suspended

A video purportedly showing Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) staffers mercilessly beating up a roadside woman vendor on Wednesday has come to light.

As the video went viral on social media platforms, the authorities suspended two employees of the civic body.

In the clip, IMC officials are seen chasing the woman and then kicking, punching and thrashing her with wooden logs. The woman, too, is seen retaliating.

"This is absolutely wrong. In this connection, two male supervisors of the municipal corporation's anti- encroachment department have been suspended, IMC commissioner Ashish Singh told PTI.

However, he said, they have come to know that the woman and her friends started the violence.

 

The local corporator had complained to the IMC that vendors were putting up stalls near the Chandragupt crossing, causing frequent traffic jams in the area, Singh said.
