Inmate beaten to death inside district jail

A 34-year-old convict who was serving life imprisonment was allegedly beaten to death by inmates inside a jail barrack here today, police said.

Chanderhas was rushed to the hospital in serious condition where he was declared dead by the doctors, District Jail Superintendent Rakesh Singh said.

He was lodged in the jail since 2006 and was serving life imprisonment.

He belonged to Dhudhli village in the district.

Meanwhile, irate inmates protested inside the jail and allegedthat jail staff were responsible for his death.

Security has been tightened within the premises and extra police force has been deployed.
