Inter-state gang of robbers busted

With the arrest of a man and his seven associates, police here today claimed to have busted an inter-state gang of robbers who were allegedly involved in several cases of vehicle thefts on the Yamuna Expressway.

Acting on a tip-off, city police and SWAT team yesterday arrested the kingpin of the gang, Mukesh Babaria, and his accomplices on the highway near here, police said.

"Inter-state robber Mukesh Babaria, withhis seven associates, was nabbed between Mandi crossing and Goverdhan crossing area of NH2, falling under Kotwalion Monday night," Senior Superintendent of Police Rakesh Singh said.

"Besides three stolen cars and as many country-made pistols, six live cartridges, a .315 bore rifle with its two cartridges, two knives and an iron rod were recovered during the raid," the SSP said.
 

Babaria, along with his gang, has confessed to the crime, including a Rs 25 lakh robbery in Ghaziabad's Dadri, police said.

The gang was wanted in a murder case besides seven other crimes, added police.

The other arrested gang members were identified as Neeraj Babaria, Om Prakash, Nitin alias Raju, Guddu, Mangal Babaria and Nur alias Prabhu, police said, adding a few other members of the gang managed to give them the slip.
