Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde today congratulated Delhi Police for unearthing the illegal practice of spot-fixing in IPL cricket matches which led to the arrest of three cricketers and several bookies.

"I congratulate Delhi Police. Whenever they do good work I appreciate," Shinde told reporters here on the sidelines of an event of border guarding force BSF.

He said the probe in the case is at a "preliminary stage" and further details will be found by the police in due time.

Cricketer S Sreesanth and two other bowlers were arrested in a post-midnight operation in Mumbai yesterday by the Delhi Police for spot-fixing IPL matches for payments of up to Rs 60 lakh just for giving away pre-determined number of runs in an over.

The arrested cricketers and bookies were remanded in police custody for five days by a Delhi court yesterday for questioning in connection with the case.
