Several activists of National Conference (NC)'s youth wing were today detained after they took out a protest rally here against the implementation of National Food Security Act and killing of their colleague allegedly by a Village Defence Committee (VDC) member.

Activists of Youth National Conference (YNC) took out a protest rally from party's headquarter at Nawai-Subah and marched towards Residency Road, a police official said.

Police tried to stop them as they reached near Kothi Bagh police station on Residency Road. However, they tried to march towards Regal Chowk, forcing the police to detain dozens of them, the official said.

Earlier, YNC's provincial president for Kashmir Salman Sagar said the protest was over many issues including the implementation of NFSA in the state and killing of Ishtyaq Ahmed (26) allegedly by a VDC member in Rajouri district after the duo had an altercation over distribution of ration.

"The protest is also against the government's failure to provide electricity to the people in winters," Sagar said.
