Jaya keen on indoor stadium for Chennai

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa was taking steps to set up an indoor stadium of international standard here, School Education Minister K V Veeramani said today.

Responding to an appeal by Deputy Speaker of the state Assembly Pollachi V Jayaraman, he said the Chief Minister was working on the project, which will be on par with the indoor stadium in Chennai.

Inaugurating the 56th State Level Republic day sports meet here, he said to promote sports, Jayalalithaa had allocated Rs. 1.56 crore for setting up high mast flood light facility in the Nehru Stadium here and also for provision of two diesel generators as a back up.
 

A total of 1,918 students, including 880 girls from 16 districts, are participating in the sports event, meant for the age group of 14, 17 and 19 years.
