Jeera prices were up by 1.60 per cent to Rs 18,760 per quintal in futures trade today as speculators enlarged positions, driven by rising demand in the spot market.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, jeera for delivery in June month gained Rs 295, or 1.60 per cent to Rs 18,760 per quintal with an open interest of 23,757 lots.

Similarly, the spice for delivery in May contracts traded higher by Rs 220, or 1.23 per cent to Rs 18,155 per quintal in 42 lots.

Analysts said the rise in jeera prices at futures trade was mostly attributed to speculators enlarging positions on the back of rising demand in the spot market.
