A local court here today sent three suspects, arrested in connection with the murder of a city jeweller, to 14 days of police remand.

Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) M C Bhatt sent the accused to 14 days of police remand after prosecution lawyer Harshad Kapadia sought their remand on various grounds, including questioning them regarding the two absconding accused involved in the case.

On January 15, three unidentified youths shot dead Hitesh Jhaveri, a jeweller residing in Vejalpur area of the city and injured two others in broad daylight before fleeing with Rs 1.09 crore in the busy and upmarket Shivranjani area here.

Three persons -- Akil Ahmed Abdul, Karim Kafil Ahmed Karim, both from Uttar Pradesh and Zabur Rehman -- were arrested by the city Crime Branch yesterday in the case.

Rehman had assisted Akil and Kafil in renting a home in Juhapura area of the city. Police have so far recovered Rs 40 lakh, seized two two-wheelers and a pistol from them.

The counsel for the Crime Branch had cited the need to interrogate the trio to establish the source of pistol and motorcycle used in the crime.

Among other things, police have also sought to know their Uttar Pradesh connection and where they were hiding after committing the crime.
