A local jeweller was shot dead by unidentified persons during an armed loot in Mursan town in the district, police said today.
Sonu (30) was shot at late last evening when he resisted an attempt by two miscreants to snatch his bag containing cash and jewellery, Circle Officer Vijendra Singh said.
Singh said that the miscreants managed to flee with the bag containing Rs 80,000 cash and jewellery worth Rs 5 lakh.
Sonu was rushed to a district hospital and from there referred to Aligarh, where he died during treatment late last night, the CO said.
To protest against the murder and loot, markets are closed in Mursan town today.
