Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das today mulled setting up of Coordination Committee at the level of chief secretaries of border states for joint development programmes that would help curb left wing extremism (LWE).

"Development alone could curb naxalism," Das said during discussions with senior Security Adviser (Naxal) to Union Home Ministry, K Vijay Kumar.

"Several naxal-affected districts in Jharkhand have borders with Bihar, Chhattisgarh and Odisha. (So) there is a necessity in setting up a Coordination Committee at the level of chief secretaries. And the committee may meet every three months to prepare joint programmes," Das added.

Advocating further coordination on development works being taken up on both sides of the borders, especially road works, which would help in rooting out naxalism, Das pitched for joint anti-naxal operation by state and central forces to combat LWE.

Stating that rooting out naxalism is among the top priorities of the state, Das said to eradicate Maoist terror the government has chalked out different development works, including construction of roads, rural electrification and skill development.

Kumar assured Das that Jharkhand would get all support from the Centre in tackling the issues.
