A court in Rajouri district today sentenced a policeman to life imprisonment for killing his colleague while on duty eight years ago.

Principal Sessions Judge Rajouri, Ashok Sharma, sentenced Special Police Officer (SPO) Mohammad Shakoor for killing constable Mohammad Ishaq.

The court observed,"from the facts of the case, it becomes amply clear that the accused nourished a grudge as the deceased had a tiff with him a day earlier. The manner in which the accused killed the deceased does not call for any lenient view."

The court also slapped a fine of Rs 20,000 on the accused. However, the sentence will be executed only after it is confirmed by the High Court.

According to the police, on February 1, 2005, the accused killed constable Ishaq by firing at him with his service rifle.
