Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) today kick-started a disabled-friendly bus for the physically challenged students on campus.
The special bus which has a ramp for facilitating boarding of wheel-chair bound students, has been donated to the varsity by BHEL as part of a CSR initiative.
The bus service was inaugurated today by the outgoing Vice Chancellor SK Sopory and officials from the PSU.

There are 261 students in category of visually impaired or physically disabled students of which 154 are pursuing research in the varsity.
"One bus is insufficient for catering to the needs of the large number of students. Therefore we demand at least one more bus should be brought in to adequately facilitate the travelling needs of differently-abled students," Saurabh Sharma, Joint Secretary, JNU Students Union said.
Recently a 95 per cent disabled student Akshansh Gupta, who is suffering from cerebral palsy had got his PhD from the university and the administration is also in process of facilitating a job for him in the varsity.
The university's Equal Opportunity Cell also takes several initiatives to make the students' stay on campus a smooth one.
