Josh Hutcherson is making his directorial debut with a short film called "Ape".

The "Hunger Games" actor, 23, is also starring in the movie, about a schizophrenic man struggling with his lifelong demons, reported Variety.

"Ape", written by Jon Johnstone, was one of five films selected for The Big Script film incubator, a project Josh helped to set up via his Turkeyfoot Productions banner with officials at Indigenous Media last year to turn the best unproduced screenplays, with characters in their late teens or early 20s, into pictures.

The scripts are chosen from the annual Hollywood Black List, which features the best film ideas yet to be produced, and depending on audience reception and media buzz, each of the short films have the potential to be made into feature-length movies.
