A director of a firm which is accused of involvement in the Kadaknath poultry scam has been detained in Sangli in western Maharashtra, the police said on Wednesday.
Ganesh Shewale, one of the directors of Maha Rayat Agro Company, was detained by the local crime branch of Sangli Police late Tuesday night, an official said.
The main accused, Sudhir Mohite, is still at large.
The company allegedly persuaded farmers across Maharashtra to invest in the Kadaknath breed of chickens, promising to buy eggs and meat of the birds at lucrative rates, but did not keep the promise.
Farmer organisations have alleged that farmers were duped of as much as Rs 500 crore due to the scheme.
