Karnataka overall champions in national aquatic meet

Karnataka lifted the overall championship title in the 67th Senior National Aquatic Championship beating their nearest rivals Maharashtra and Railways here today.

While Karnataka, also the last year's champion, garnered 217 point in various events, Maharashtra and Railways arrived in the second and third positions with 200 and 187 points respectively in the five-day meet that concluded at the B R Ambedkar International Complex near here.

The event, participated by more than 650 swimmers from across the country, witnessed 12 new records- seven in the men category and five in the women.

After a hiatus of 16 years, Railway won the men's championship with 187 points, while Maharashtra grabbed the women's championship with 164 points.
 

Railway's Sandeep Sejwal and Gujarat's Maana Patel were declared the best swimmers.

Team SSCB lifted the diving and water polo championship titles in men's category. In the women's category, Kerala team clinched the water polo championship while Railways fetched the diving title.

On the final day, Shivani Kataria of Haryana and Aaron Agnel D'Souza of Railways won the gold in 100 m free style of women and men's category respectively.
