Several Kashmiri Pandits living in Madhya Pradesh after being driven out of the northern state in the late 1980s on Monday hailed the Centre's decision to scrap Article 370.
Most of them came to MP after their homes were destroyed in the violence that took place against the community in J-K in 1989.
"I can't tell you how happy I am. All the things that happened in 1989 flashed across my eyes as I heard the news of Article 370 being abolished," said Maya Kaul, mother of actor Manav Kaul.
She said she had to flee Kashmir in 1989 with her husband and two children.
"I still remember our family having to leave Baramulla with just a suitcase. We came and settled in Hoshangabad. With the decision to abolish Article 370, the doors of Jammu and Kashmir are now open for everybody," she said.
Virendra Kaul of 'Kashmiri Samiti', a local group, said, "The Central government has taken a very good step by revoking Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. We had given up hope that such a step would be taken."
"My family home in Pulwama was burnt by a mob of 2500 people. My family had to leave J-K overnight to save our lives. I was studying in Class X at the time," he said.
The Centre on Monday revoked Article 370 which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir.
