In a surprise raid in the Deoria district jail, a knife, cigarette, catapult and a diary were found from the barrack of mafia turned politician Atiq Ahmad while a mobile phone was recovered from another barrack.
Criminal-turned-politician, Atiq Ahmad, is an independent candidate in the Phoolpur by-poll scheduled on March 11.
During the raid at Deoria district jail, a catapult, a small knife, a diary, cigarette, pan-masala were recovered from Atiq Ahmad's barrack and a mobile phone and a diary from another barrack. I have asked the superintendent of jail to match the recovered things with jail manual and action will be taken for keeping prohibited things, DM, Deoria, Sujit Kumar said.
Former MP Ahmad who is charged with 35 cases of violence and arson filed his nomination as an independent from inside jail.
