The Left trade unions today claimed that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is "nervous" about the September 2 strike which is causing her to issue circulars against it and accused her and her party Trinamool Congress of working as agents of BJP.

"Our Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress are working as agents of BJP and Modi government in the state. They are trying to foil the strike which has been called by Left Front and Congress trade unions centrally against the central government and its policies," CITU state president Shyamal Chakraborty said.

"It has nothing to do with the state. But still Mamata Banerjee is opposing it. The reason is very simple. Both (Banerjee and BJP) are in collusion and that is why she is helping BJP in foiling the strike," he said.

Banerjee had yesterday opposed the proposed countrywide strike on September 2 called by central trade unions saying she is against bandhs and its sponsors will harm to the people.

The Chief Minister had last week asserted her government would not allow any bandh in the state on September 2 and said "If they (central trade unions) want they can go to Delhi and stage dharna to register their protest."

Reacting to her comments, Chakraborty said she is "nervous" and that is why she is issuing various circulars in the state.

"But we will give her and her government a befitting reply on September 2," he added.

Taking a tough stand, West Bengal government had yesterday directed all its employees to report for work on September 2.

INTTUC, the trade union arm of Trinamool Congress, today took out a massive rally in Kolkata during the day opposing the strike.
