Leopard attacks minor boy in Katarniaghat sanctuary in UP

A 10-year-old boy was attacked by a leopard in Kukrigava village under the Katarniaghat wildlife sanctuary here, forest officials said today.

Sukul was last evening playing outside his house when the leopard attacked him and tried to drag him into the forest, Divisional Forest Officer Ashish Tewari said.

But as the locals raised alarm and rushed to the boy's rescue, the big cat fled in the jungle, Tewari said.

While the locals claimed that the siblings of the victim - Dhannu (15) and Rani (8) - rushed to his help and fought with the leopard to save him.

The boy has been admitted to the district hospital and a financial help of Rs 5,000 has been provided to him, the DFO added.
