Clash in Kanpur over 'disrespect' to religious poster

A clash broke-out between two communities over alleged disrespect to a religious poster, following which police resorted to lathicharge to bring situation under control.

District Magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma said members of two communities engaged in a scuffle after poster of a Goddess was found on the ground at Darshanpurwa under Fazalganj police station here.

They also pelted stone and raised slogans against each other. Police resorted to lathicharge to bring the situation under control, Sharma said.

However, no one was injured in the incident, he said.

Police, PAC and CISF personnel have been deployed in the area to maintain law and order.
 

Meanwhile, scheduled Taziya procession from Fazalganj area was couldn't be taken out due to tension in the area till reports last came in.

Efforts are being made to placate the members of both the communities, the DM said.

Reports of skirmish between two communities also poured in from Raipurba area, Sharma added.
