locals, auto drivers to fill potholes on battered bypass road

: With appeals to relay the battered Ukkadam-Selvapuram bypass in the city falling on deaf ears, locals and motorists today joined hands to fill the potholes.

Autorickshaw drivers said the condition of the road was so bad that accidents occurred almost on a daily basis and leading to breakdown of vehicles.

Despite numerous appeals, the highways department failed to repair the roads, they alleged.

Today some autorikshaw and lorry drivers, with the help of locals brought in loads of debris, loose soil, sand and bricks and filled the potholes

They did so speding money from their own pockets, they said.
