A day after suffering the ordeal of a 26-hour 'gherao', Presidency University VC Anuradha Lohia today said most of the students did not support protesters, who were demanding her resignation over alleged police assault on students protesting during Mamata Banerjee's visit to the campus.

The vice-chancellor wondered what right the students had to demand her resignation.

"Who are the students to ask for my resignation, just because they don't like me? How can they ask for my resignation? Only a small group of students are protesting. Most of the students are not with them. I want a proper atmosphere in Presidency," Lohia told a news channel.

"I want the students to excel in life and wish them all the best," Lohia said.

Lohia spent 26 hours under gherao by her students since Friday afternoon through the night till Saturday. Though she left the campus after the convocation saying she was unwell, the demonstration by students continued.
