Lok Adalat resolves pending cases

The national Lok Adalat held in Dakshina Kannada district from November 1 to December 12 on the directions from National Legal Services Authority have settled 57,242 pending cases.

Senior civil judge and member secretary of district legal services authority B Ganesha said different courts took up the cases that were pending like issues relating to insurance companies, banks and revenue.

He said in a release that of the 57,242 cases, 215 pertaining to motor vehicles accidents were settled and a compensation of Rs 3.42 crore was provided.

The Lok Adalats also settled 2,143 criminal and 1,021 civil cases. An amount of Rs 38,89,200 was collected as fine from traffic violation cases.
 

The Lok Adalat also settled 1,603 cases relating to BSNL, idea cellular company and various banks.

Ganesha said the adalat was successful with concerted efforts of all stakeholders including the clients, district administration, advocates, heads of various departments, finance and banking institutions in resolving issues.
